“I can either stick up for myself sometimes or I can believe anything you say about me and end up hating myself every minute of the day. And maybe you think I should, but it’s not much of a life, you know?”—Rob Fleming (High Fidelity by Nick Hornby, 1997)
It’s not so much of you liking me now, it’s more of you allowing yourself to like me. Not many people have to courage to do so, and I guess if I were a different person, I’d find it difficult to like myself as well. But I tell you, once you open up to possibility of liking me, and I find out or, better, you let me know, I’d do whatever it takes to make sure you never dislike me ever again.
I can be the world’s most likable person - but only if you let me.
